What a fantastic camp experience for our imaginative, creative, not-sport-inclined kiddo. It was so amazing to see the productions that all the groups worked on over the week.
I’m a professional in the business theatre industry, and to see my kid up on a stage, knowing that while they are having fun, they are also subtly learning the nuances of the theatrical arts, stage direction, stage presence, etc… PLUS they are learning from a group of instructors who are diverse, inclusive, community-minded, and represent everything that our family is about… well, this just fills my heart with joy.
Highly recommend the Great Big Theatre Company! We are already looking forward to our kid’s 2nd experience with them this summer, and many more to come.
We have tried to explore a few summer camps for our 7 year old daughter over the last few years. When we ask her - 'what's been your favorite camp' -- by far her top 2 include the Great Big Theatre Company!
Here's what she likes:
1. Its a lot of fun!
2. There is freedom for her to express herself, be herself, and also be surrounded by young individuals (high school age) who also are good role models
3. An opportunity to showcase what she and her friends have created in front of an audience
Here's what we tend to like as parents:
1. Its a positive and safe environment with capable facilitators who build a good rapport with each camper
2. Growth of leadership and teamwork skills. There is a lot of soft skill development where the kids have to work with each other to communicate their ideas and build of each other
3. The final showcase serves as a good way for each child to be inspired by the possibilities of what they could do better each time.
We have been placing our children in Great Big Theatre summer camps and day programs for the past three years now, and they absolutely love it. Not only has it helped build their confidence as they perform with their peers, it has helped stretch their imagination and creativity. The instructors & counsellors are young, fun, goofy and caring in all the right ways. I'd encourage all parents - including those with 'sporty' kids - to think about enrolling their kids in a GBT class or camp to see how theatre/drama skills help create truly well-rounded human beings!
My son is 6 years old and he took this camp for the first time. He was nervous at first but ended up loving it that we had to sign up for more weeks! The Friday presentation was great! For a short period of time they learned dance routines, a play and a commercial/advertising. The teachers were very engaged and gave the kids the freedom to be creative. It was an amazing experience for him! Things don’t always have to be technical; kids learn through play and this camp is definitely a great one!
My girls went to summer camp at Great Big Theatre in Waterloo last year and had a blast! It really helped them step out of their comfort zones with singing, dancing, and acting. The leaders were so engaging and supportive, even encouraging the shyest kids to try something new. We also gave feedback on one concern we encountered, and the leaders addressed it right away. The final performance was amazing, making it totally worth it for busy parents to take the time off. Now, GBT is always on our summer camp list and highly recommended!
My daughter and son have both attended GBTC camps for multiple years now. They adore the camp leaders and all the activities through the week, boosting their confidence and preparing them for the end-of-week performance. It has always amazed me that in a week’s time, they’ve readied themselves to put on such a fun, engaging performance from the script, props, and even hilarious commercials! My kids can’t wait to return again this year, and I can’t wait for their performance!
Our 6-year-old daughter attended two weeks of summer camp with GBTC in 2024, and she absolutely loved it! So much so that we signed her up for fall classes, and she'll be returning again in February. She's already looking forward to next summer's camp. The counselors were wonderful, and the program offered a great variety of activities that kept her engaged and excited. We’re so pleased with her experience and can’t wait for what’s next!
My 7-year-old is generally energetic and cannot sit still for one minute. When I registered him for the theater summer camp the first time, I wanted him to learn how to follow instructions and expected he'd hate it. It turned out to be a great surprise that he loved the theater camp so much as to ask me to register him for the theater courses in the entire school year. He's been having so much fun in class, but more importantly, he's learned to follow instructions and to contribute his part to the class/ group. It's been a very good experience for him.
My granddaughter attended the Great Big Theatre Company summer camp in Dundas the summer of 2024. She had such a wonderful time, meeting new friends, experiencing her drama skills (she never knew she had), and performing to a live audience! She experienced new and exciting challenges that have increased her self confidence and enhanced her creative skills. She will be returning for the summer of 2025!
We love Great Big Theatre summer camp! This will be our third year sending our 2 sons to the camp. The counsellors are excellent, my kids loved the acting and improv games and especially loved rehearsing and performing their big show at the end of the camp.
My two girls (7 and 8) loved this camp! The councilors were great and the vibe was very relaxed. They got to use their imagination making the play and it was so fun to watch at the end. My younger gal was shy but once she did the camp she said she wanted to try it again. Super great opportunity for kids who like dressing up and performing!
This will be my girls’ third year going to GBTC summer camp. Every year they make new friends and see some from previous summers as well. They accomplish quite a bit, even during the shorter 4-day weeks, as seen at the end of the week with their final performance for the parents. Everyone seems to get along and work together, and it’s nice to see.
My daughter had a blast at Great Big Theatre summer camp. The counselors made sure the kids all felt involved and confident on stage and the play at the end of the week was so cute and funny. We had such a great experience that we signed up for their fall and winter program as well. Definitely recommend!
It was a fantastic place. My daughter had an amazing experience last summer, and she is so excited to go back this summer. The entire GBT team was incredibly friendly and made sure our kids were having fun and staying safe.
My daughter has attended the summer camp for the last 2 years and absolutely loved it. The staff are great and the experience really helped to build her confidence. I’ve signed both her and her younger sister up for camp this year too. They can’t wait.
My kids LOVE this camp. It is always their favourite every summer. Next summer my daughter wants to do 4 weeks of GBTC. This summer she did 3!
My kids love Great Big Theatre Company! They have so much fun every year, it is always their favourite camp. The kids really get a chance to use their creativity.
My kids had a great experience at this camp. I was so impressed with how much they were able to learn in just a week - the performance at the end of the week was quite entertaining and they were so proud of their efforts! I noticed in particular how engaged and attentive all of the staff were throughout the week; the overall vibe was so friendly and inclusive. I have signed them up again this summer!
My daughter has done both the summer & March break camps and has loved both! The staff is wonderful & really allow the kids to be creative & take the lead. It’s fun to watch the finished product at the end of each camp week.
My child did the camp last summer for the first time and loved it! She loved it so much we are doing it again this summer. She said the camp instructors were so much fun and they all had a great time prepping for their play that they performed at the end of the week. The instructors also tried to make sure they got the kids out at some point during the day to get some exercise. Would recommend the camp.
My daughter went to camp with GBT company for the first time last summer. She throughly enjoyed it! Great option for creative kids.
Both my daughters have been attending this camp for a few years now. They love it! They enjoy the creativity and the fun they have all day.
Great Summer Camp Program with truly amazing Counsellors!
My daughter attended GBTC’s summer camp last year and she loved it. She’ll be attending March break and summer camp this year. It’s a lovely community and a great place for kids to build self confidence.
Our daughter loves this camp. Three years in a row and no sign of the enthusiasm waning!

Great big theater camp is an engaging camp experience for little ones. Best suited for younger kids, aged 6-9.
Our kids were here for March Break. They had a great time ! Very warm and caring staff. We will be back in the summer.
